The tour

Munich’s essentials in one morning

We start at Marienplatz, the heart of the city for more than 800 years, just as the Glockenspiel in the New Town Hall sets its figures dancing. From there we walk through the old town to see how a small monks’ settlement became the capital of Bavaria.

How a free tour works

There is no fixed price: at the end of the walk, each guest decides how much to give the guide based on their experience. Booking is required so we can organise the groups.

The itinerary

  1. Marienplatz

The heart of the city since 1158. We watch the Glockenspiel of the New Town Hall and the Mary column.

  2. Frauenkirche

The cathedral with the twin domed towers and the legend of the devil's footprint at its entrance.

  3. Viktualienmarkt

The locals' favourite market, with its maypole, its stalls and its open-air beer garden.

  4. Hofbräuhaus

The world's most famous beer hall and the story of Bavarian beer, from the monks to Oktoberfest.

  5. Residenz and Odeonsplatz

Home of the Wittelsbach dynasty for centuries, and the Feldherrnhalle, where the walk ends.

  6. And much more

These are just the highlights; along the way you will discover many more places and stories.
